Timneh African Grey Parrots for Sale are an excellent choice for someone looking for an intelligent, observant companion without the larger size of a Congo Grey. The Timneh is a distinct African grey species, Psittacus timneh, and is generally smaller and darker than the Congo, with a charcoal-grey body, maroon tail, and lighter horn-colored upper beak. Adult Timnehs are commonly around 28–30 cm long and roughly 275–375 g, although individual size varies.

What I particularly appreciate about Timnehs is how much personality they can show once they become comfortable with their surroundings. They are highly intelligent birds with excellent mimicry skills, but I never recommend choosing one based on talking ability alone. A Grey needs daily interaction, mental stimulation, safe toys to chew and destroy, a consistent routine, and an owner willing to understand its body language.

Timnehs can make wonderfully engaging companions when they receive patient socialization. Some individuals are naturally outgoing, while others take more time to trust unfamiliar people. That difference matters when choosing a bird, which is why I prefer prospective owners to learn about the individual parrot’s personality, current diet, socialization, and routine rather than judging the species alone.

Their intelligence and longevity mean that proper nutrition, veterinary care, enrichment, sleep, and companionship should be planned before bringing one home. A responsible purchase should also include clear information about the bird’s health history, weaning status, identification where applicable, and legal documentation.

If you are seriously considering a Timneh, take your time. The best match is not necessarily the bird that talks the most—it is the bird whose temperament, confidence, and needs fit the home you can provide.
